About this site

The aim of the PRIN 2022 SnowMed project is to improve the assessment of the changing cryosphere of the Central Italian Apennines. This region, located within the Mediterranean basin, is considered by the scientific community to be a hotspot of climate change.

This website presents the results of surveys and the collection of all available historical and scientific datasets. These are complemented by modern Earth-observation techniques, ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys, and numerical model simulations, and are integrated into a modern geospatial platform for long-term archiving. The platform follows the Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) principles, as well as OGC standards.

The datasets include statistical analyses of snow cover, cloud microphysical properties derived from satellite observations, and measurements collected during field campaigns conducted within the project.

The project has been carried out by the following partners: the University of L’Aquila, the University of Perugia, La Sapienza University of Rome, Roma Tre University, and the National Research Council – Institute of Methodologies for Environmental Analysis.
